Perpetual, Lyceum split volley honors
MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help System-Laguna and Lyceum of Philippines University-Batangas beat their respective finals rivals to split top honors in the NCAA-South Season 12 beach volleyball tournament recently at the FAITH campus in Tanauan City.
John Joven Javier, UPHSL’s MVP in its men’s indoor volleyball championship run, extended his heroics in the sandcourt, teaming up with John Philip Nuñez in demolishing LPU’s Aries Solas and Jobzion Lualhati, 21-9, to annex the men’s beach volley plum.
Lyceum-Batangas emerged triumphant in the distaff side, with Maryjho dela Torre and Jozza Cabalza cruising to an easy 21-13 disposal of Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas’ Ana Alicia Adolfo and Alyanna Marie Gorospe.
Javier and Dela Torre were adjudged MVPs for their sterling performances in the two-day hostilities.
Beach volleyball was played as a demonstration sport but winners will be sent to a major tourney – the Nestea Beach Volley Tournament – as NCAA South’s representatives.
MANCOM chair and event chairman Lito Arim, meanwhile, announced that the league will elevate beach volleyball to regular status next season.
