UE Kid Warriors bag MSSA crown

-

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East Kid Warriors outpointed Don Bosco, 52-51 and clinched their first championship trophy at the recently concluded Metro School Sports Association (MSSA) 12-under tournament at the British School in Global City, Taguig.

Joshua Santos sank the game-winning basket from the free throw line with 13 ticks left. Don Bosco had a chance to win the game when it intercepted an imbound pass from Neil Mendoza under the basket with barely two seconds left to play, but the harried shot bounced off the rim as time expired.

The title is the second for coach Mark Herrera who bagged the National Juniors Championship title for his UE Junior Warriors in Iloilo City two days earlier.

“I’m proud of these kids. They may not have enough experience in this field yet, but they have shown determination and courage to reach this point. They played their best and they deserve to win,” said Herrera, also the head coach of the U-13 national team and the four-time champion Talk n Text Jr. PBA team.

The UE Kid Warriors participation is part of Herrera’s sports program supported by UE president Ester Garcia, EVP Carmelita Mateo, and acting PE director Rodrigo Roque.

Herrera is assisted by Edwin Ancheta and Benjie Diswe.
