Subic run eyes record number of entries

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Subic International Marathon firing off Jan. 9 hopes to set a standard in marathon events even as it seeks to surpass its first two editions in terms of participation.

Billed as the “Run for Fun and Transformation,” the SIM will be held at the Remy Field inside the Subic Bay with the organizers vowing to give the runners the chance to experience a world-class marathon event.

“We want this event to be run to perfection,” said Gen. Sam Tucay, founder of SIM.

Listup is ongoing at Chris Sports and Subic Residencias, according to race director Eric Imperio of Extribe, Inc.

“We want to pattern our race to the famous New York Marathon,” said Tucay, whose group expects to lure 13,000 participants competing in the 42K, 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K races backed by Smart Sports, 100 Plus, Summit Drinking Water, Deuter, iFitness, Subic EnerZone, Ceres, Global Destiny Cable, MultiSport, OneSport and Jam 88.3 FM.

The New York Marathon, one of the biggest marathons in the world, attracts an average of 40,000 runners annually and Imperio, the same race manager of the 70.3 Ironman Challenge and the 10-10-10 Pasig Run, believes the SIM has the makings of becoming a world-class race.

“Runners will be given race chips, which we got from an Australian company, to monitor the time of the participants consistently. Water will also be provided every 1.5 kilometers of the race,” said Imperio.
