3-way battle looms in supercross
MANILA, Philippines - The Asian MX2 crown remains a toss-up among the series’ top three contenders, ensuring an action-packed finale in the FIM Asian Motocross Supercross Championships Sunday at the Speedworld MX Circuit at SM Bicutan.
Riders, teams, media and officials from Japan, Mongolia, Iran, Australia, Malaysia, Guam and USA have confirmed their participation in the continental event of 23 Asian federations.
The event coincides with the 12th and final leg of the 2010 NAMSSA Philippine National Motocross Championship.
Japan’s Tomoya Suzuki leads the MX2 scoreboard with 142 points for a six-point lead over Mongolian rider Khaliunbold Erdenebileg. Iran’s Amir Reza Sabetifar is in third with 124 points.
Kenneth San Andres, the country’s reigning motocross Rider of the Year, is also expected to vie for top honors.
The Filipino bet is fifth in the overall standings after he finished fourth, behind Suzuki, Erdenebileg and Sabetifar, in the penultimate round held in Iran last October.
The series’ final leg is hosted by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA), the Philippine Olympic Committee’s and the Philippine Sports Commission’s legally recognized national sporting authority for motorcycle sports in the Philippines.
