MANILA, Philippines - The ING Bank-Manila will hold a running event dubbed “Running 20” on Dec. 11 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig in celebration of its 20th year in the country.

Deadline for listup ends today with online registration available at www.habitat.org.ph or at the ROX at the Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City; any Reebok store at Trinoma Mall, Megamall and Festival Mall; and any Royal Sporting House in Glorietta 4 and Robinson’s Place in Ermita.

ING Bank, which sponsored its Philippine clients in the recent ING-New York City Marathon, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to ensure the successful staging of the event, also held to raise funds for the second ING Village in Calauan, Laguna.

Around 100 families displaced by Typhoon Ondoy and informal settlers along the Pasig River are expected to benefit from the project.

Aside from helping ING Bank and Habitat for Humanity build more homes, runners get a chance to win cash prizes while berths for next year’s ING-NYC marathon will be at stake in the 20km race.

The ING-NYC marathon is the largest one-day live sporting event in the world that draws more than 70,000 runners, two million spectators and a worldwide television audience of 315 million.

Previous Filipino runners in the ING-NYC Marathon included CEO clients of ING and Sen. Pia Cayetano, an avid runner.

Habitat for Humanity and Ayala Land, Inc. chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala, who also ran in one of the ING-NYC marathons, will also join ING Bank-Manila’s Running 20.

ING Bank built the first ING Village three years ago in Baseco, Tondo where there are now more than 170 homes.

For Running 20, the target is to raise funds for at least 20 additional houses for the second ING Village in Laguna.

“It requires a great amount of passion to run for every Filipino family who needs a roof over their heads. Participating in this marathon is a very timely holiday gift for those in dire need of shelter,” said Consuelo Garcia, Philippines country manager of ING Bank, which has already donated an initial amount of P2.1 million to Habitat to kick-start the construction of the new ING Village as part of its global commitment to make a difference by building one home at a time.
