MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Anna Clarice Patrimonio disposed of Ive de Castro, 6-0, 6-1, while sister and No. 2 Anna Christine defeated Alyssa Labay, 6-1, 6-2, at the start of the ladies competitions in the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open presented by Cebuana Lhuillier at the PCA clay courts in Paco, Manila yesterday.
Fil-Am Desiree Krawczyk bucked the heat and coasted to a one-sided 6-0, 6-1 win over Jane Lim.
“I’m used to playing with this kind of humidity so I think it’s (weather) not a problem. I’m playing really well but it’s too early to predict. We’ll see,” said Krawczyk, who ruled the recent Phinma International Juniors Week 2 tournament.
Anna Clarice meets Marian Capadocia, who prevailed over Odette Asperin, 6-0, 6-1, while Anna Christine faces Linda Santos who squeaked past Honey Mae Gilles, 6-2, 6-4.
Krawczyk, on the other hand, braces for a duel against national team member Michelle Pang who advanced into the second round with a walkover win.
In other results, Marinel Rudas beat Enah Baba, 6-1, 6-2; Aileen Rogan overwhelmed Jennylyn Magpayo, 6-1, 6-0; Macy Gonzales outlasted Trudy Amoranto, 7-5, 6-2; Martina Guba trounced Julie Em Botor, 6-1, 6-1; Regina Santiago crushed Joie Altiche, 6-0, 6-4; Tamitha Nguyen blasted Nikkie Manalo, 6-2, 6-2; and Zhane Quitara who won via default over Jasmin Ho.
Action in the men’s singles resumes today with defending champion Johnny Arcilla battling Arvin Ruel, top-seed Fil-German Marc Sieber facing Joseph Victorino, last year’s runner-up Marc Reyes clashing with Kim Ivor Saraza, and veteran Patrick John Tierro squaring off with Alexander Lazaro.
