Guerra tops MCC tourney
MANILA, Philippines - Lord Romie Guerra held top seed Ferdinand Palermo to a draw in the final round to rule the December edition of MCC 1900 below standard chess tournament at the Eton Cyberpod Corinthian Bldg. 1 in Pasig City over the weekend.
The fifth-ranked Guerra, the former standout of Adamson, split the point with Palermo after 32 moves of a London game to finish with 4.5 points in the five-round tournament. He took home P3,000.
Palermo wound up with four points and dropped to a share of second with No. 16 Louie Salvador, No. 21 Joseph Balmaceda and No. 7 Roger Abisan.
Other winners were Balmaceda (unrated); Jaime Tabuzo of San Jose Del Monte (senior) and Alfonso Ramos of DLS-Greenhills (16-under).
