BAGUIO, Philippines – Camp John Hay closed out with a 115 and cruised to a 23-point victory in the Fil Championship while its Am team essayed a whopping 96-point romp to complete its sweep of the seniors Fil-Am golf invitational tournament at the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay Golf Club courses here yesterday.
Clyde Cabreros fired 30 points, Goodie Ignacio and Fred Puckett each had 29 while Rudy Loceky added 23 for CJH’s 115 aggregate as it pooled a four-day total of 473 for a 23-point win over Manila Southwoods.
Jong Won Park made a 23 and didn’t count in the five-to-play, four-to-count format tournament presented by Toyota.
Southwoods turned in a 110 for a 450 card. Florene delos Santos shot 31, Freddie Mendoza made a 28, Eduardo Sison had a 27 and Antonio Hernandez and Bayani Fontanilla, Jr. added 24 apiece, one of which counted for the team.
ABW Leaves of Life finished third with a 379 after a 94 behind Eriberto Bunye’s 29 points, Ben Jacinto’s 24, Alberto Garcia’s 21 and Benny Alcantara’s 20 points.
The victory thus snapped CJH’s three-year title drought in the annual tournament, spicing up the team’s sweep of the event as its Am squad dominated the action from start to finish.
John Hay assembled a 449 after a 118 and beat Southwoods, which had a 353 after a 93, by 96 points. Lee Kee Seung and Mars Garcia led the CJH charge with 32 and 31 points, respectively, while Bong Mandapat had 30 and Nelson Eslao added 25.
The CJH golfers likewise took the individual titles with Puckett reigning in the Fil Championship with 122 points and Mandapat taking the Am plum with 123.
Camp Aguinaldo placed third with a 341 after a 94.
Aguinaldo, meanwhile, took the Seniors Fil-A crown with a 416 after a 99 for a 62-point win over BCC.
Eduardo Gador paced Aguinaldo with 31 points, while Dante Tejada, Glykes Sua and Art Alabanza added 26, 22 and 20 points, respectively.
BCC made 95 points for a 354, while Agojo Batang Gas settled for third with a 72 and 320 total.
Club Intramuros had an 83 for a 343, 36 points ahead of Capitol Hills in Fil-B division of the event backed by American Eye Center, Rudy Project, Wilson Sports, Gatorade, Carts Plaza and Supreme Bikes.
Capitol Hill had a 72 for a 307 while Golf Team placed third with a 274 after a 63.
In Seniors Am B, Square & Compass Golf of Nueva Ecija turned in a 77 for a 303 to beat Isabela (68-279) and Travellers (57-253) while Isabela GC of Ilagan took the Fil-F crown with 92-142, beating Quality Gards Services, Inc. (81-359) and CJH (81-331).
The Mountaineers Golf Team, with Kalinga Vice Gov. Sonny Mangaoang firing 29 points, won the Am F plum with a 314 after a 94 for a 17-point victory over Isabela GC-Cauayan I, which had a 297 after a 78. Kapolei placed third with a 78 for a 293.
Square & Compass Golf of Nueva Ecija II pooled 314 points after a 71 to cop the Fil G title, beating Seoul Survivors (75-289) and Team Orion (66-281).
Square & Compass also bagged the Am G crown with a 277 after a 63 as it dominated Team Las Vegas (69-252) and Summer Capital GC-South (70-250).
