Ignacio, Villanueva share MCC honors
MANILA, Philippines - Robin Ignacio and Jerome Villanueva fashioned out contrasting victories in the final round to rule their respective divisions in the MCC 12-under and 16-under chess tournament at Eton Cyberpod Corinthian Bldg. 1 in Ortigas recently.
Ignacio posted a total output of 4.5 points with four wins and one draw and finished tied for first with top seed Juan Carlos Presente.
But the 11-year-old Ignacio took the kiddie crown with a superior tiebreak score with both players sharing the cash prizes of P2,500.
Villanueva, meanwhile, defeated Carmella Galve in 42 moves of a King’s Indian Defense to sweep the five-round 16-under tournament.
Armand Narvaja, Jico Blas, John Bulawan and Pancratius Ventura took the next three spots in the 12-under category while Bryan Barcelon finished second in the 16-under followed by Gino Cabual and Richmond Obogne.
