MANILA, Philippines - Arnold Unabia and Jovielyn Pepito topped the Cagayan de Oro leg of the 34th National Milo Marathon Sunday with the former ruling the men’s category for the third straight year.
Unabia, 32, clocked 1:13:06 in the 21k race, edging Jeffrey Sotto, who had 1:13:16, while Bryan Quiamco took third place in 1:16:16.
Pepito, meanwhile, turned in a 1:34:31 clocking to beat Sharon Vega, who timed 1:39:01, while Stephanie Pumatong placed third in 1:40:31.
The event drew 14,000 runners with 35 runners qualifying for the national finals slated Dec. 12, including Unabia, Sotto and Pepito.
Nestle Phils. CEO John Miller, technical director Campo Van Beek and 400 employees of Nestle Philippines also took part in a show of support to marathon’s advocacy of giving out running shoes to public school children.
A total of 280 pairs of running shoes were also donated to the students of Macanhan Elementary School in Cagayan, bringing the total to 3,600 pairs of shoes given throughout the nationwide elims.
