Red Lions, Archers dispute Final 4 slot
MANILA, Philippines - NCAA champ San Beda College and three UAAP squads shoot for the last two Final Four berths in the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) today at the Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions dispute a semis slot with De La Salle University in the main game at 4 p.m. following the other Elite 8 showdown between UAAP runner-up Far Eastern and Adamson at 2 p.m.
SBC coach Frankie Lim, whose wards swept their way to the NCAA title last month, said Sudan Daniel and the rest of the crew intend to live up to high expectations and continue their winning ways.
“We all like winning. We just have to constantly work hard to attain our goal,” said Lim after their 86-64 rout of Sweet 16 rival University of the East, adding that their aim is to also bring out the broom in the PCCL.
The Lions are up against an undermanned Green Archers squad, who played without Joshua Webb, Gab Banal and Joel Tolentino and then lost Luigi dela Paz (dislocated shoulder) Simon Atkins (sprained ankle) in their 70-56 demolition of Letran in the Sweet 16.
“It’s gonna be tough for us as San Beda has a lot of good big men,” said DLSU coach Dindo Pumaren.
Meanwhile, the Falcons and the Tamaraws meet again after playing in the semis of the recent University Games. That time, Adamson beat an FEU team that played without UAAP MVP RR Garcia and Reil Cervantes.
“After beating them in the UAAP and in the Unigames, we’re no longer afraid of them (FEU),” said AdU coach Leo Austria. “More or less we already know what to do (to beat them).”
Already in the semis in the other side of the draw are defending titlist Ateneo and University of Cebu.
