LS-Zobel girls hang on, lead school golf
MANILA, Philippines – La Salle’s Pauline del Rosario and Mikhaela Fortuna combined for 86 points to keep the Girls 2 division lead at the resumption of the first ICTSI Inter-School golf championships at the Royal Northwoods Golf and Country Club in San Rafael, Bulacan recently.
Fortuna stepped up in the absence of Bernice Olivarez-Ilas with 40 points to back up team spearhead del Rosario who fired 46 as the Greenies posted 86 for a three-round aggregate of 248, still seven points ahead of their Assumption rivals.
Gabrielle Nikhaela Bruce and Annika Cedo outscored the La Salle Zobel team with their 47 and 40, respectively, but it was not enough to erase the eight-point deficit they faced when the round started.
As no shows hit the Girls 1 play, Marvi Monsalve fired 52 to put St. Paul’s Pasig solidly on top at 240 with St. Francis of Assisi at 149 behind the 51 of Asian champion Princess Superal.
The Inter-school series is still part of the year-round talent development program being initiated by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines with the full backing of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and other sponsors.
Philippine Airlines, Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper are major sponsors. The other sponsors are Dynamic Sports and Leisure Corp., McDonald’s, Smart, Golf Depot and Pioneer Insurance.
Excitement is expected to heat up as the boys troop to the Northwoods course this weekend for their third rounds.
La Salle Greenhills, bannered by AR Ramos, tries to protect a 17-point margin over the Jay Reyes-led La Salle Zobel in the Juniors category, La Salle Greenhills 2 hopes to widen their hefty advantage over Brent in Midgets 1 and Ateneo eyes to keep their 1-2 positions in Midgets 2.
Superal kept the individual lead in Girls 1 with a 149 total putting her 11 ahead of Monsalve. Del Rosario is the runaway leader in Girls 2.
