MANILA, Philippines - Third seed Chung Sheng Yu of Chinese Taipei outplayed compatriot Wei-Jen Chen, 6-4, 6-2, to reach the semifinal round of the Phinma International Junior Tennis Championship at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.
Dragged to close game in the first set, Chung asserted his might in the second en route to the straight-set win in the event presented by Phinma Properties in cooperation with the ITF Grand Slam Development Fund.
Seventh-ranked Thai netter Nattan Benjasupawan joined Chung in the semis with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Cheng Yu of Chinese Taipei.
Desirae Krawczyk, meanwhile, sustained her form in the ITF ranking event as she defeated Nahathai Khuntaket of Thailand, 6-3, 6-2, in the distaff side.
Krawczyk, who ousted top seed Anna Clarice Patrimonio in the second round, joined Akita Sutjiadi of Indonesia in the semis.
Sutjiadi whipped Darya Chertnesova of Belarus, 6-1, 6-3.
