3rd Anvaya Cove Invitational triathlon set
MANILA, Philippines - The entry of foreign delegation, the influx of young triathletes and the staging of a relay event highlights the third Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon slated this weekend at the scenic Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club in Bataan.
A record number of 150 entries are to compete in this two-day event organized by Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) in cooperation with ACBNC which is developed by Ayala Lands Inc. (ALI) owned by businessman/triathlete Fernando Zobel de Ayala.
For the first time since its inception, the event will be holding a relay race with 14 teams raring to see action. Six squad will be made up of Taiwanese who are now residing in the country to spice up the competition.
Hong Kong will also be sending triathletes for the different male and female age group competitions while a total of 30 young triathletes aged 3 to 15 years old will display their acts in the Super Tri-Kids in the event sponsored by Globe Telecoms with support from Vitwater/Sunkist, David’s Salon, Hang and Folded and Gatorade.
“This year’s staging is special with a number of first happenings. This is the first time foreigners are competing, we had our biggest number of competitors and we have also a bigger field of young triathletes whom we really want to tap so we can help develop their potentials at their early age,” said resident manager Jovie Reyes.
But aside from the competition, it is bringing the entire family to an event where they will have fun competing and at the same time enjoy the gift of environment scenery that makes the Anvaya Tri a unique triathlon race.
The last triathlon event organized by TRAP for this year, the age group and relay event will cover the distance of 1km swim, 30km bike and 6km run.
The route will be relatively run on flat course but the challenging part which will separate the men from the boys is the 3-kilometer hilly ride from the main clubhouse leading to the main gate in the bike course.
Competition will start this afternoon with the Super Tri-Kids while the age group and relay will be held tomorrow.
The top three over all in the male and female, relay teams and different age groups will be receiving medals and gift checks while all finishers will bring home finisher’s t-shirts on top of the club brunch hosted by GLOBE.
For participants who will arrive early Sunday morning Anvaya Cove resort management will be providing shuttle bus from the Subic Freeport to the venue. Assembly time is at 4:30 am with the bus to leave at 5 am.
