MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has insured members of Team Philippines in the ongoing 16th Asian Games to cover their medical needs and protect their items while in Guangzhou, China for the quadrennial meet.
PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia has entered into an agreement with Standard Insurance Co., Inc. in which the latter would sponsor the 282-strong delegation, including 188 athletes, by providing them travel insurance protection for their Nov. 12-27 trip.
The insurance is estimated to be worth P200,000.
Under the package, the Phl athletes and officials are entitled to medical assistance, including medical expenses and hospitalization in case of illness or injury, transport or repatriation in the event of illness or accident incurred by the insured during the trip, and emergency dental care, among others.
The Asian Gamers also enjoy coverage on their baggage, such compensation for in-flight loss of baggage checked in; compensation for delay in the arrival of luggage; and location of and forwarding of baggage and personal effects.
The insurer likewise commits to indemnify the insured in case of personal accident.
The partnership was forged right before the first batch of athletes and officials left for the Southern Chinese city early this month.
