ICTSI, Southwoods duel seen in Fil-Am

MANILA, Philippines - Peter Villaber and Dante Becierra head the crack ICTSI squad vying for top honors against a tough field, including Manila Southwoods, in the 61st Fil-Am Golf Invitational firing off Nov. 24 at the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay courses in Baguio City.

Villaber, a former member of the national team, and Becierra, a former Hong Kong Open Amateur champion, will be joined in the team by Sonny Boy Giallom, Justin Limjap and Fil-Am Carl Santos Ocampo as ICTSI goes for the crown in the centerpiece Championship Flight of the annual tournament presented by Toyota.

But the Laguna-based squad faces a tough challenge from Southwoods, to be led by the veteran interclub campaigner Jun Plana, Jikjik Abdon, Chucky Hong, Teody Pascual and Justin Dy.

Mizuno has also confirmed its participation with King Stehmeier and former jungolf star Juami Rocha spearheading the team’s bid in the tournament with John Baron Garcia, Rodel Mangulabnan and Richard Joson.

Batangas is also fielding in a team in the event with Mark Mendoza, Howie Sison, Dino Jimenez, Jeck Mendoza and Gerald Katigbak leading the Barakos’ campaign in the event sponsored by American Eye Center, Rudy Project, Wilson Sports, Gatorade, Carts Plaza and Supreme Bikes.

Meanwhile, a brand new Toyota Vios will be staked as hole in one prize on Nos. 10 of both the BCC and John Hay courses.

One Yamaha Golf Cart will also be up for grabs for ace on Nos. 1 and 18 at the BCC and Nos. 4 and 15 at John Hay. A Kymko motorcycle will be given away for a hole-in-one feat on No. 16 of BCC and No. 13 of CJH.

One gift certificate for Cataract Surgery with Multifocal Intraocular lens implantation is also staked for aces on Nos. 7 and 11 of BCC and CJH, respectively.

Some 66 teams are expected to compete in the two-week tournament backed by Dusit Thani Manila, New World Renaissance Hotel, Island Cove, Unilever, Ritzgolf Sports Marketing and Willow Tree.
