MANILA, Philippines - Talk n Text plays B-MEG Derby Ace for the second time in nearly a month today, determined to chalk up a repeat win for a share of the lead with a streaking San Miguel Beer side halfway through the elimination round of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Coach Chot Reyes said they would not take the badly depleted Llamados lightly even though they’re struggling minus injured stars Kerby Raymundo, Marc Pingris and Rafi Reavis.
Reyes said they would leave nothing to chance in their 5 p.m. encounter as they’re aching to keep pace with the Beermen (6-1) in the race for the coveted top two slots in the elims phase of the all-Filipino tourney.
Derby Ace coach Jorge Gallent, however, admits the Llamados face an uphill battle against the Texters.
“We have to limit their fast breaks and disrupt their offense by playing physical,” said Gallent whose troops are languishing in the cellar at 1-5.
Barangay Ginebra and Air21, meanwhile, try to firm up their spots in the upper half of the chart as they clash in the 7:30 p.m. main game.
The Kings are in third with a 4-2 slate, having won their last three games while the Express are in fourth with a 3-3 slate, winning three of their last four matches.
“We have to keep playing and hustle in every play for 48 minutes,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico, wary of the Express who had posted impressive wins over the Llamados, the Alaska Aces and the Powerade Tigers.
But Air21 coach Yeng Guiao is not impressed by their last victory, saying they have to play a lot better if they are to beat Ginebra.
