MANILA, Philippines - The Asian Karting Open Championship holds its penultimate leg today with the region’s top karters resuming their battle for supremacy at the Bangkok Racing Circuit in Srinakarin, Bangkok.
Indonesia is out to stamp its class behind Sean Gelael, who will be vying for the crown in the 25-man Formula 125 Open Senior class of the event.
Gelael, who did not see action in the Phl leg, grabbed the solo lead after sweeping the Macau and Indonesian legs to assemble a total of 80 points.
Backing him up are Sean GP Racing teammates Edward Cheever and Jean Philipe Guignet of France.
Also in the fold are Malaysian Weiron Tan, Singapore bet Richard Bradley and fellow Indonesian Andi Aviandha Triadna Jakile who are going all out to foil Gelael’s bid in the event presented by Red White Racing of Indonesia.
Tan is second overall with 69 points after finishing second to Gelael in Indonesia while Bradley, the current leader of the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship, is in third overall with 40 points.
Other karters in the top 10 are Alexandra Asmasoebrata of Indonesia, Natasha Seatter of Malaysia, Christian Silvano, Senna Sulaiman Noor and Mohamad Sharif Rahardjo of Indonesia, and Ryan Mumford of Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the Phl bets are way behind the leader with Juha Turalba in 13th place, VJ Suba of FERN-C Racing in 14th and Stefano Marcelo of Marcelo Racing in 16th place after failing to suit up in Indonesia.
