DUMAGUETE, Philippines – Bobby Park’s young son launched his bid for stardom with an awesome performance that helped erstwhile perennial doormat National University dethrone defending champion and UAAP three-peat titleholder Ateneo Blue Eagles with a 66-53 win Friday night in the UniGames at the jampacked Lamberto Macias Sports Center.
The 6-5 Bobby Parks Jr. scored 19 points as he led the NU Bulldogs to the victory and a place in the championship against Adamson University, which led all the way in beating Far Eastern U, 76-62, in the other semifinal game.
Ahead 22-9 at the end of the first quarter and 34-27 at the half, the Bulldogs saw their lead wiped out by the Eagles who led, 40-38, at the end of the third quarter and tied it at 47-all going into the last period.
But the Bulldogs, hungry for another crown after ruling the Martin’s Cup last week, limited the Eagles to a measly six points in the entire quarter while scoring 19 points of their own to ensure the win.
