MANILA, Philippines - UAAP three-peat champion Ateneo trampled West Negros University, 79-62, to lead three other UAAP teams in the semifinal round of the men’s basketball competitions of the Philippine Sports Commission-University Games (PSC-UniGames) in Dumaguete yesterday.
The Blue Eagles stepped up their attack in the second half after the Mustangs kept the game close in the first two quarters, 34-38.
But the Loyola-based squad poured on the heat in the third and led by 20 points at 64-44 before coasting to victory in the fourth quarter.
Adamson, meanwhile, booted out St. Benilde, 97-61, to arrange a semis showdown with Far Eastern U. Ateneo takes on National U in the other semis clash.
University of the East won the men’s and women’s titles in badminton, beating Iloilo Doctor’s College and FEU, respectively; St. Benilde and De La Salle University split the titles in lawn tennis; CSB beat Ateneo to take the men’s championship, La Salle thwarted Ateneo’s bid anew for a crown in the women’s side.
UP-Diliman struck in women’s division of taekwondo, winning four gold medals and one silver to emerge champion with Rizal Technological University (RTU) and St Louis University settling for second and third places with a gold each with RTU winning more silver medals to break the tie.
