Army, Air Force spikers retain National Open titles

MANILA, Philippines - Defending women’s champion Philippine Army and reigning men’s titlist Philippine Air Force beat their rivals to retain their respective crowns in the National Volleyball Open at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex recently.

Army posted a 25-23, 25-22, 30-28 win against the Philippine Navy in the women’s finals to complete its back-to-back romp in the week-long event organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation.

Cherry Vivas racked up 29 points while Rachel Ann Daquis, who scored 16 kills, delivered the game-winning spike to help the Army retain its title in the week-long event backed by Mikasa, Philippine Sports Commission, Rizal Technological University and EARIST.  

The PAF also kept the crown by besting Philippine Army, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16, in the men’s side.

National player Michelle Carolino copped the Most Valuable Player title while Rhovyl Verayo took the men’s MVP plum.
