Discovery holds vertical marathon

MANILA, Philippines –  Discovery Channel is holding a one-of-a-kind vertical marathon in November to promote energy conservation and raise funds for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga.

Discovery Channel is teaming up with Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation for the staging of the R.A.C.E: Run And Climb for the Environment on Nov. 27 at Bonifacio E-Services Building in Taguig.

Participants will run nine ramps of parking spaces, climb up the stairs until the 25th floor, return to the lobby and run around the park in this vertical marathon.

Runners in the Elite Division go through the course twice. The winner gains the right to represent the country at the Swisshotel vertical marathon in Singapore.

Finishers of the marathon can win a Chevy Cruze in a raffle draw.

Interested participants aged 16-65 may secure registration forms at Skechers outlets, Apple premium resellers and Chris Sports outlets (Trinoma, Market! Market!, Glorietta 5, Festival Mall) or through www.verticalmarathon.runningmate.ph.

Entry fee is P600 until Nov. 13 and P800 from Nov. 14-19.

“Discovery Channel educates and provides quality entertainment to Filipinos, but we also recognize our role in inspiring individuals to support their community,” said Kevin Dickie, senior vice president and general manager, Southeast Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.

“With the Run And Climb for the Environment marathon, we are creating a venue where Filipinos can support Gawad Kalinga’s endeavor to conserve energy. By taking the stairs, we actually conserve a significant amount of energy every day,” Dickie added.

Jacque Ruby, Discovery Channel local representative, invited running enthusiasts to register, run and give back to the environment. “We encourage runners from different ages to join and be part of this vertical marathon that will not only make their bodies fit but give them the opportunity to help save the environment by conserving energy,” said Ruby.

The R.A.C.E: Run And Climb for the Environment is held in partnership with Bonifacio Global City, Bonifacio High Street and Market! Market! and Skechers Resistance Runner, “Run Less, Get More”, Chevrolet and Yakult.
