US 9-Ball: Django, Bata post 4th wins

MANILA, Philippines - Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante sustained their top form and whipped their respective rivals to cruise into the fifth round of the US Open 9-Ball Championship at the Chesapeake Conference Center in Virginia Thursday.

Reyes, the former double world champion, defeated American Marc Vidal, 11-7, while Bustamante, the reigning world 9-ball champion, beat Manny Chau of Peru, 11-6, to post their fourth straight victories in the double-round elimination format.

Reyes takes on Darren Appleton of Great Britain in the next round with the 2008 World 10-Ball champion trouncing Jayson Shaw of the US, 11-6.

Bustamante, on the other hand, faces David Alcaide of Spain, who beat Stan Tourangeau of Canada, 11-5.

Warren Kiamco battles Corey Deuel of the US in the other featured match.

In the losers’ side, Ramil Gallego stayed in the hunt by ousting Raj Hundal of United Kingdom, 11-9. He earlier downed Hunter Lombardo, 11-3, and Mike Dechaine of the US, 11-6.

Ronnie Alcano, meanwhile, booted out John Pinegar, 11-4, of the US and Paul Song, 11-5, of Vietnam before edging Ricky Yang of Indonesia, 11-10, to stay in contention.

Alex Pagulayan, Dennis Orcollo and Antonio Lining, however, bowed out to Jeremy Sossei, 11-9, Beau Runningen, 11-10, and Dan Heidrich, 11-7, respectively.

Unheralded Tommy Tokoph of the US also eliminated Jose Parica, 11-9, and Lee Vann Corteza, 11-8.
