MANILA, Philippines - The Kenyans, feasting on local racing with their world class form, didn’t spare the short distance fun runs, sweeping the 10k races in the Blue Water Day Spa fun run at SM Mall of Asia last Sunday.
Philip Kipkemei Ronoh turned in a 0:33:28 clocking to rule the male division of the centerpiece event of the three-category race sponsored by Blue Water Day Spa.
Regie Lumauag settled for second in 0:36:58 while Warlito dela Cruz of Phil. Coast Guard placed third in 0:38:12.
Irine Jeptoo Kipchumba, on the other hand, topped the ladies side in 0:39:20, beating Nhea Ann Barcena (0:40:34) and Anna Vargas of PCG (0:47:49).
Ronoh, who also topped the 10k run of the Clark International Marathon in 2008, and Kipchumba, a veteran internationalist, took P5,000 each.
Cheryl Golangco, meanwhile, won the Jazz Up Your Singlet contest with Felix Ng and Angel Edejer finishing second and third, respectively.
Justin Tabunda of San Sebastian College topped the men’s 5k in 0:15:58 with UST’s Roger Denolo and Carlito Fantilaga finishing second and third in 0:16:23 and 0:16:34, respectively.
Josie Malacad also completed SSC’s sweep of the 5k run as she ruled the ladies side in 0:21:37. Julia Abiera, also of UST, and Heleisha Lavina placed second and third in 0:23:44 and 0:25:16, respectively.
Michael Bacong (0:09:18) and Michelle de Vera (0:12:09) ruled the 3k races with Roldan Vevano (0:09:33) and Laurence Esquillo (0:10:26) and Jelly Ann Solis (0:12:43) and Remedios Barcelo (0:13:53) finisheing second and third respectively in the men’s and ladies classes.
