SBC-Alabang sweeps NCAA-South elims

- Olmin Leyba -

MANILA, Philippines - San Beda College-Alabang dumped University of Batangas, 93-74, to complete the first-ever nine-game sweep of the elims in the NCAA South over the weekend in the Season 12 men’s basketball tourney.

The Red Lions drew double-digit production from five players to go 9-0 and earn the No. 1 seeding and twice-to-beat incentive in the semifinals.

Ivan Gallardo took over scoring for SBC-A after ace gunner James Panaligan was slapped a disqualifying foul in the third period, pumping nine of his 18 markers in the payoff period, to lead the team to the easy rout.

Reynaldo Estanislao added 13 for SBC-A while Panaligan finished with 11.

In the other other game, host First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities erased a 14-point deficit to drub Philippine Christian U-Dasmariñas, 85-74.

The FAITH Bravehearts unleashed a 30-16 third quarter assault to catch up with the Dolphins then finished their foes off with a 25-14 attack in the fourth.

They finished with a 7-2 slate.

FAITH shared No. 2 spot with defending champion Don Bosco and University of Perpetual Help System-Laguna after the elims, their semis ranking to be decided via tiebreak.
