RP women's coach off to US

-

MANILA, Philippines - Careline Pilipinas women’s under-18 coach Patrick Aquino is leaving for the US today for a one-month seminar to be conducted by some of NCAA’s revered coaches, including Duke’s and US team mentor Mike Krzyzewski.

His first stop will be at Stanford University where he will have the chance to observe first hand preparations being made by the team for the coming NCAA season, and get some insights from coach Johnny Dawkins.

Aquino, whose trip is supported by Blackwater, Ever Bilena Cosmetics chairman Dioceldo Sy and Mighty Sports Association, is also scheduled to visit University of California (Berkeley) for another seminar to be facilitated by coach Mike Montegomery.

The highlight of his US trip, however, will be his one-day seminar at Duke under Krzyzewski, easily one of the most accomplished coaches in the US.

“I’m so privileged to have a chance to attend a seminar that will be conducted by some of the finest coaches in the US,” Aquino said.

Aquino, who acted as manager to several teams in the PBL before shifting to coaching, is being groomed by Sy to handle his team that will take part in the soon-to-be revived Philippine Basketball League.

Aquino is also one of the former UP players being eyed to handle the team in the next UAAP season.
