MANILA, Philippines - Host Centro Escolar University and powerhouse Lyceum will go for the clincher today in the 41st WNCAA senior basketball and volleyball finals at the St. Scholastica’s College gym.
Lyceum will try to snare a fifth straight basketball crown against College of St. Benilde at 1:30 p.m. while its volleyball squad eyes an unprecedented 11th straight title versus Rizal Technological University at 5:30 p.m.
On the other hand, CEU battles Philippine Women’s University in the Senior B basketball Game 2 at 12 noon and in the Senior B volleyball finals at 4 p.m.
Lyceum beat CSB, 72-55, and CEU outlasted PWU, 65-59, during last weekend’s finals opener.
Game 1 of the volleyball finals also went Lyceum’s way against RTU, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-12, while CEU won, 19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-9, against PWU.
The midgets basketball semifinal round of the league being supported by official media partner Philippine Daily Inquirer, Lenovo, official print partner Manila Bulletin, Solar Sports and Monster Radio RX 93.1 also starts today, with De La Salle Zobel taking on St. Paul College Pasig at 9 a.m. and Miriam tackling newcomer Poveda at 10:30 a.m. for the other finals seat.
In junior volleyball, it’s still an open race for the other two semifinal berths. Only defending champion St. Scholastica and Angelicum College, with eight victories apiece, are assured of Final Four slots.
In futsal action of the tournament also enjoying the backing of Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody and MJC Press, defending senior champion sets its sights on a six-game sweep versus CSB at 12 noon at the CEU gym.
Defending junior champion DLSZ targets the same goal as it tests the mettle of Angelicum at 3 p.m.
