RP all primed up for Rainforest Challenge
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is all set to compete in the Rainforest Challenge of Malaysia 2010, the largest 4x4 off-road competition, slated Dec. 4-13 in Johor, Malaysia.
The Rainforest Challenge, which started in 1997 and considered the Formula One of off-road racing, is a 10-day meet featuring treacherous rainforests in Malaysia where both man and machine would undergo a rigid test.
The RFC was recently named the “Most Spectacular Sports Tourism Event Award” in Malaysia and has earned the distinction in the Malaysia Book of Records for drawing the most number of participants in a 4x4 event.
“The RFC of Malaysia 2010 is going to be a tough event for the serious 4x4 enthusiasts who love the dream of taking on a jungle adventure with its temperamental weather conditions and the physical endurance required,” said Luis Wee, founder and creator of the Rainforest Challenge in Thursday Night’s media launch at the Landrover display room in Makati.
“But amid the sweat, mud, and humidity, there is also the warmth brought by the fellowship, camaraderie and teamwork of the participants as well as the Malaysian hospitality,” he said.
Wee is in the country to meet with Land Rover Philippines Motors, Inc. officials and other prospective partners to explore the possibility of holding the country’s first ever International Invitational Rainforest Challenge this year.
Wee also lauded the participation of Team Land Rover Philippines in this year’s event.
“The same team won three top awards in last year’s competition in Johore Baru, including first runner- up in the above 3,000 cc category. It also won the most promising team award,” said Wellington Soo, chairman and president of LRPhils Motor, Inc.
