MANILA, Philippines - China’s Yu Long Zhang stopped Antonio Lining, 11-7, to capture the China Open World 9-ball crown at the Minya Hotel in Shanghai, China last Sunday.
Zhang’s victory came after he booted out another Filipino, Lee Vann Corteza, in another 11-7 victory in the semifinals.
Lining, on the other hand, defeated Liu Hai Tao of China, 11-7, to get a crack at the crown.
Zhang’s win also kept China’s win run in big-time pool tournaments after the pair of Li He-wen and Fu Jian-bo of China humbled the Filipino tandem of Dennis Orcullo and Roberto Gomez in the final of the Partypoker.net World Cup of Pool at Robinson’s Place-Manila recently.
In women’s play, Si Ming Chen edged Allison Fisher of Great Britain, 9-7, to cap the Chinese domination of the annual event which drew some of the world’s top players.
The other RP players who competed in the week-long event were Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Marlon Manalo, Jeffrey de Luna, Venancio Tanio and Rodolfo Luat and Rubilen Amit.
