Tams, Chiefs notch win No. 2 in LBC tilt

-

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U and Arellano U posted contrasting victories to share the early lead in the first LBC Men’s Volleyball League at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym in Loyola Heights, Quezon City last Wednesday.

The Tams fought back from a set down and won the last two, completing a come-from-behind 25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 15-10 victory over the Angeles Univ. Foundation tossers in one of the three seniors matches in the fifth playdate of the league sponsored by LBC Hari ng Padala.

It was FEU’s follow-up victory to its equally tough four-set win over Ateneo last Sept. 15.

Rodolfo Labrador, Arvin Avila and Roland Tonquin took charge by combining for 44 hits while Pitrius de Ocampo set FEU’s attacks with 39 successful tosses.

The Chiefs matched the Tams’ fine start with a straight-set 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 victory over the University of the East Warriors.

John Muñoz fired 15 hits for Arellano, which pulled off a four-set win over National U also last week.

San Beda, meanwhile, survived St. Dominic Savio’s fierce challenge as it carved out a 30-28, 25-19, 24-26, 25-11 victory in the other seniors match.

Gilbert Ablan and Lorenzo Capote combined for 41 kills as the Lions rebounded from their opening day setback to the Warriors in the event backed by Shakey’s, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.

In the lone juniors’ match at Colegio San Agustin gym, Sta. Elena High School debuted with a 25-15, 25-12 romp over the host school.
