Ford-TRS seeks crucial GT triumph

MANILA, Philippines - The Ford Focus-TRS Racing Team hopes to fortify its bid for the titles at stake behind four of its drivers competing in the fifth leg of the 2010 Philippine GT Championship Sunday at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas.

Multi-titled racing champ Mike Tuason, who will spearhead the campaign, will be joined by Bobby Noriega, Sean Redpath and Marcus Wong in Ford Focus-TRS Racing’s quest for honors powered by Castrol, Ford Phils., Goodyear, Coke Zero, Speedlab, Rota Wheels, Starbright Bodykits, Weapon R, Discovery Suites, Fremuff, OMP, Oakley, Toptul, Business World and C! Magazine.

All four will be using the new 1.8 Ford Focus race cars which the team says have a long tradition of excellence in Philippine motorsports. The Ford Focus-TRS partnership has won the national touring car championship and other motor sports disciplines during the last three years.

After clinching the amateur crown in lateral drifting, Tuason is now focusing his sights on the GT crown. He faces a must-win situation to even up the score with William Tan and beef up his bid for the GT Driver of the Year award.

He currently has 192 points or 23 points behind as he also eyes the GT300 crown of Leo San Juan.

Noriega, Redpath and Wong will all be gunning for the title in the GT125 division.

Noriega is currently second overall in the GT125 behind teammate Stuart MacDonald with 53 points.

Redpath is fourth overall in the same class with 37 points as he looks forward to a big win in the Sprint race after finishing second in the last leg while Wong is fifth overall in the title race.

In the last race at Clark, the team hauled a total of eight trophies.

“The superior technology and performance in the last leg only proves the racing heritage of the Ford Focus. And with the capabilities of our racers, Ford’s partnership with Tuason Racing School is headed to a new chapter of championship tradition,” said Ford Group Philippines VP for Marketing Dino Obias.
