LTO chief fires off runners in Auto Review
MANILA, Philippines - Land Transportation Office chief Virginia Torres will represent President Aquino when the fourth Auto Review Run for Road Safety and Courtesy hits the road tomorrow at 5 a.m. at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
Also gracing the event, which expects to draw 2,000 runners, is Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano.
The event will be a virtual mini-car show with some of the country’s major car companies highlighting the safety features of their latest vehicle models.
Some of the cars that will be on display this weekend are the new Mitsubishi ASX, Volvo XC60 and C30, Great Wall’s Hover 4x4 SUV and Cool Bear, Hyundai’s Santa Fe and Getz, Isuzu’s D-Max Radikal, Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Cruze and Captiva, Nissan Sentra 200 and X-Trail, Kia Soul and Rio and Mini Cooper.
Caltex, one of the three oil companies supporting the event, will also put up a mini gas station display with emphasis on their advocacies for road safety and environment.
Registered runners get to wear a collectible pedestrian lane-inspired singlet designed by Design Hub and Accel and has a reflective strip at the back to enhance visibility when they run on the road at night.
Also supporting the race whose advocacy aims to nurture a new generation of safety-conscious and courteous road users are the World Health Organization, Department of Education, Metro-Manila Development Authority, Goodyear, Automobile Association Philippines, AGC glass, Manila North Tollways Corp., Pocari Sweat and Maynilad Water, with special participation from Toyota, Honda, Shell, Land Rover, Petron, BMW, Jaguar, One-Tagaytay Place, Bluewater Day Spa, 7-Eleven, Walter bread, and Tapa King.
Runners will be kept busy with other post-race activities such as the Road Safety Quiz, Dribble for Safety Challenge and interpretation of Noel Cabangon’s song, “Ako’y Isang Mabuting Pilipino,” and on-the-spot slogan writing contest, among others.
There will also be an award for the runner with best-in-road safety attire.
Registration is still going on at the event’s Secretariat at No. 5 Agusan St., Sta. Mesa Heights, Quezon City.
