MANILA, Philippines - The Futures Basketball League (FBL), a school-based grassroots basketball development program recognized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), opens its sixth season on Sunday starting at 12 noon at the Xavier school covered courts.
More than 20 Metro Manila schools have already confirmed their participation, including defending girls junior champions San Beda College-Alabang, in the tournament that will also feature competitions in the mini, midgets and junior boys’ divisions.
Among the participating schools aside from SBC-Alabang are University of Sto. Tomas, Adamson University, De La Salle-Zobel, San Beda College, La Salle-Greenhills, St. Mary’s College, Southville International, Marist School, Montessori International School, Antipolo Lady of Lourdes School, Santa Clara School, Montessori International School-Antipolo, St. Bridget’s, and opening day host school Xavier School.
Organized by LAN Sports and Events, the tournament is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, which will host some games in PSC facilities, and Primovit Multivitamins, according to project director Niño Sinco.
“In the past years, we have held FBL tournaments in the Visayas and Mindanao and we hope to continue this after the NCR leg but we need the help of sponsors in this endeavor,” said Sinco.
Eight games are on tap on the opening day.
