Davao leg ends Shell chess elims

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Shell National Youth Active Chess winds up its eight-leg nationwide circuit with the staging of the Davao leg on Sept. 25-26 at SM City Davao Event Center with a maximum field of 500 clashing for top honors and spots in the national finals next month.

With the huge player turnout in Davao, the organizing and sponsoring Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., is optimistic the event will be another banner field both in the juniors and kiddies divisions.

The top three placers in each division will join the other qualifiers in the seven other legs in the grand finals. Play in the 14-and-under category will be a nine-round Swiss system while the 20-and-under division will be an eight-round affair.

A total of 48 players will be culled from the nationwide circuit and will fight for top honors in the two-division national finals slated Oct. 23-24 at SM Megamall. The finals will be a 9-round Swiss system tournament for both categories with fabulous prizes at stake.

Shell Active Chess is the nation’s longest running grassroots-based chess tournament. Through the Shell Active Chess, Pilipinas Shell endeavours to empower the Filipino youth, in line with the company’s commitment to sustainable development.
