MANILA, Philippines - University of Manila and STI disposed of their respective rivals to keep their 1-2 positions even as Informatics pulled off a big win to firm up its semifinal bid in the 10th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities at the UM gym recently.
The Hawks repulsed the upset-conscious Our Lady of Fatima U Phoenix, 73-66, to nail their 14th win in 16 games while the Olympians downed the Centro-Escolar U Scorpions, 74-68, for their 13th win against three losses.
The Icons, meanwhile, overpowered the San Sebastian-Cavite Baycats, 81-58, to close in on the leaders with an 11-5 (win-loss) slate in the tournament backed by Vega Balls and Tropical Hamburger.
In the only other duel, the AMA Computer U Titans smashed the New Era U Hunters, 83-64, to snare their seventh victory against eight setbacks.
CEU and OLFU, though, remain in semis contention as the former fell only to 10-5 and the latter 10-6 going into the final windup of the second round of this event handled by commissioner Ronnie Cahanding and tournament director Benjie Diswe.
