Mercado best in Barashari chess

MANILA, Philippines - Henry Mercado nipped Percival Jerusalem in the tiebreak to capture the first Barashari non-master chess tournament crown at the Brgy. Pila covered court in Pila, Laguna recently.

Benigno Palumbaret finished third followed by Dr. Bong Perez, Jose Zuela, Eduardo Condes, Reynald Tenebro, Jaycee Billones, Jerwin Billones and Abel Condes in that order.

Jonas Intal bagged the top kiddie plum while Celestial Ramos ruled the distaff side of the tournament, a project of councilor Dr. Ronilo Barashari of Pila, Laguna in cooperation with the Pila Chess Club. It was supervised by arbiters Gatz Luz, Mario Perez and Cecil Padua.
