St. Benilde, Lyceum set 3rd straight title clash

MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum smothered University of Asia and the Pacific, 92-44, while St. Benilde blasted Rizal Technological University, 71-30, last Sunday to arrange a third straight showdown for the 41st WNCAA crown at the Lyceum gym.

The Lady Pirates are seeking their fifth straight crown and are raring to repeat over the Lady Blazers, whom they also beat in the finals of Seasons 33, 35, 39 and 40.

Philippine Women’s University, meanwhile, clinched the first Senior B finals slot. The hosts will dispute the crown against the winner of the CEU-Miriam College tussle.

CEU downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 66-51, and Miriam scuttled San Beda College Alabang, 55-46, in the quarterfinals.

In the midgets level, De La Salle Zobel completed a three-game sweep after crushing St. Paul College Pasig, 58-15. The two teams are also set to clash in the Final Four with Miriam and Poveda squaring off in the other semis pairing.

In the volleyball action, 10-time defending champion Lyceum and UA&P duel for the right to face RTU in the Senior A title series while CEU and St. Scholastica’s College slug it out with the winner advancing against PWU in Senior B.

Lyceum dominated Miriam, 25-19, 25-14, 25-20; UA&P outlasted San Beda, 16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13; CEU won over EAC by walkover; and St. Scholastica overwhelmed La Consolacion College Manila, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16.

Angelicum College continued to pace the junior division with a 7-0 slate as it bested St. Stephen’s High School, 25-18, 25-16, 25-11. Defending champion St. Scholastica totes a 6-0 card after a 25-13, 25-10, 25-10 victory over La Salle College.
