TRS-Castrol clinches drifting title behind Tuason, Mazda
MANILA, Philippines - Living up to its championship tradition, the TRS-Castrol drift team achieved another milestone as multi-titled champion Mike Tuason and the Mazda BT-50 drifting pick-up captured the overall amateur plum of the Lateral Drift Championship 2010 recently at Eastwood, Libis, Quezon City.
The Mazda BT-50, which created sensation as the world’s first ever diesel-powered drifting pick-up truck last year, evolved into a competitive machine beating the highly favored Sylvia s15 and the Nissan Skyline.
Moreover, Tuason was at his best with his near-precision driving as he turned back actor Ryan Agoncillo for the feat powered by Castrol, Goodyear, Mazda, Coke Zero, Speedlab, Rota Wheels, Starbright Bodykits, Weapon R, Discovery Suites, Fremuff, OMP, Oakley, Toptul and C! Magazine.
Bjorn Ongtiaobok, another TRS-Castrol drift driver, bagged third place finish after beating Kar Montaner.
“This is a big feat for the team winning the title after barely two years in the drifting scene,” said Tuason, who’s also the TRS vice president of operations. “And the Mazda BT-50 proved itself beyond our expectations, displaying racing excellence and competitive quality throughout the season.”
Though he was leading by 23 points prior to the championship leg, Tuason gave his heart out and settled for nothing less but the win.
He was the second best in the qualifying round, moved into the semis after ousting Rick We and automatically advanced to the top 2 spot.
Later, experience prevailed as Tuason unveiled aggressive driving and perfect maneuvers to upstage Agoncillo for the plum.
