Taguig vs US nine in friendly tiff
MANILA, Philippines - A reinforced Forward Taguig side will slug it out with members of the baseball team of the USS George Washington, a carrier set to arrive in Manila, for a one-day friendly game tomorrow at the Felino Marcelino Baseball Stadium in Taguig City.
Baseball Philippines has put together a competitive local team to be pitted against an expected strong US squad in the first-ever baseball match featuring Americans since the US bases pullout in 1992.
Gametime is set at 12 noon.
Niño Tator, Jon Jon Robles and Charlie Labrador of the Manila Sharks team in Baseball Philippines Series will be teaming up with Miggy Circuerra of Cebu and Jojo Apurra of Batangas to backstop the Forward Taguig squad.
The USS George Washington will be making a routine stop here with the US and RP officials taking time out to arrange the exhibition game to foster goodwill and camaraderie among the participants.
The US visit also serves as part of its outreach program aimed at benefiting several organizations.
Baseball is one of the sports the American servicemen would be playing while on a four-day break here.
Basketball, soccer and softball matches are also set to be played in various venues.
