Cebu Milo run lures big field

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the Milo Marathon shifts to Cebu tomorrow with more than 23,000 runners, including defending champions Mendel Lopez and Madelyn Carter, expected to participate.

The event, which starts at Osmeña Blvd and ends at the Cebu City Sports Center, is the second biggest leg of the Milo run elims after the Metro Manila leg. Organizers said an additional 3,000 runners are joining in the different race categories, underscoring the event’s growing popularity in the region.

Out to foil Lopez and Carter’s back-to-back title bids are Jen Billacora, Eugene Delfonso and Adonis Singson.

Also at stake is the top P10,000 purse plus berths in the national finals set in December.

The Cebu run serves as the sixth leg of the 18 races after Manila, Dagupan, Baguio, General Santos and Davao stages.

After the Cebu leg, the race heads to Tagbilaran City on Sept. 12, Dumaguete City on Sept. 19, Iloilo City on Sept. 26, Naga City on Oct. 3, San Pablo City on Oct. 10, Batangas City on Oct. 17, Puerto Princesa on Oct. 31, Tarlac City on Nov. 7, Olongapo City on Nov. 14, Butuan City on Nov. 21 and Cagayan de Oro City on Nov. 28.
