Go going for 2nd win in dragfest
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s fastest drivers vie for the titles at stake in the second leg of the 2010 Northern Series Philippine Drag Racing Championships this Saturday at the Clark International Speedway.
Anthony Go of JCT-Blanche Racing, the recently crowned overall Pro class champion of the Magnolia Purewater National Drag Racing Championship, will be gunning for his second straight victory in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and supported by Yokohama Tires, San Miguel Corporation, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag and Stoplight TV.
He will be driving his Honda hatchback as he goes up against American V8 muscle cars of John Ryzia and Steve Caldwell, H3 Motorsprts’ Pepi Santos and Edwin Cayco, Vannitec’s Vanni Garcia and fastest lady driver When When Dagondon, and two talented Ilocos racing brothers – Ed Christopher and Ed Christian Go.
The event could also mark the comeback of six-time champ and teammate Jonathan Tiu from a bizarre accident two months ago. Tiu aims to regain his supremacy in the Quick 8 division up against the winners in the last leg – Pepi Santos of H3 Autoworks, runner-up Norman de la Peña of QSP-My Mitsu, and expat William Hand of Garage Power.
Caldwell, a retired US serviceman, also looks forward to his second straight triumph in the Expert class aboard his classic Chevy as he gears up for another tough showdown against three-time champ Jonathan Young of JCT Blanche Racing, Alex Llanes of H3 Motorsports-Pit21 and equally strong contenders Victor de Benito of RSL, Renier Lanuza of Mohspeed and Allan Ararao of Vannitec. Sherwin Esguerra goes for his second win in the Sportsman class against Omar Wycoco of Cabspeed and Martin Manalo while Macky Baquiran hopes to pull another upset in the Hotstreet division over favorite Francisco of Team Ready and former champion Jeannette Go.
