Paeng, Liza lead 68 Wcup hopefuls
MANILA, Philippines - Sixty-eight remaining contenders for the two (men’s and ladies) Bowling World Cup International slots swing into action at Paeng’s Midtown center today and tomorrow as the battle for the national titles heats up.
National bowlers Apple Posadas, Krizziah Tabora and Liza del Rosario pace the 34 lady aspirants seeking the top eight seats as they roll 10 more games today carrying their first-day scores starting at 10 a.m.
The 34 big guns in the men’s division led by Jeff Carabeo, six-time world champion Paeng Nepomuceno and Jeremy Posadas take their turns at 10 tomorrow morning also keeping their first day scores.
Posadas showed the way after Tuesday’s first 10 games with 2109 for a sizzling average of 210.90.
Tabora came in second at 2096, followed by Del Rosario with 2066.
Carabeo, a former BWC international campaigner, shot ahead in the men’s division with 2737, followed by Nepomuceno with 2715 and Posadas with 2714.
Nepomuceno, the only four-time World Cup titlist, and Del Rosario carried the Philippines’ colors in last year’s BWC international finals in Melaka, Malaysia. Nepomuceno boosted the country’s image when he was named Sportsman of the Tournament.
Regular campaigner Sammy Sy provided the first-day highlight by shooting a perfect 300 en route to fourth spot.
This year’s champions will represent the country in the international finals set at the 44-lane in Toulon, France from Oct. 15-24.
