STA. ROSA, LAGUNA, Philippines – Two-time champ Stefano Marcelo of Maranello-San Miguel Corp.-Marcelo Racing showed tough form when he swept the fifth leg of the 2010 Magnolia Purewater Karting Super Series recently at the Enchanted Kingdom Kart Trak here.
Marcelo, now an Ateneo Law student, displayed the same intensity and near flawless moves as he bagged both the ROK Overall and ROK Senior crowns of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Purewater, San Miguel Corp., Petron Corp., Yokohama Tires, Motorstar and Aeromed.
He completed the 28-lap race in 14 minutes, 50.370 seconds, or 1.057 seconds ahead of ROK overall runner-up Roby Benito of Ready2Race.
Juha Turalba, also of Ready2Race, checked in third while Jet Racing’s Javi Benitez and Franco Reyes ended fourth and fifth.
Marcelo also claimed the ROK senior plum against Turalba and Benitez.
Benito, in turn, captured the ROK junior crown over Reyes and third placer Christian Villenueve of Maranello-SMC-Marcelo Racing. Kim Lagman finished fourth while Jennifer Tumambing wound up fifth.
Oliver Aquino of Alessandra Racing staged a big comeback with a win in the Formula SL Expert division.
Aquino clocked 16:16.091 in the 28-lap race or 1.805 seconds ahead of veteran AUTS Racing karter Indy Villalon. Yvana Carangan made it third while John Castelar landed fifth.
Equally exciting was the SQ Class where former matinee star Onemig Bondoc prevailed over Don Batino and third placer Mike Mora.
Philip Lau topped the SQ Veterans class over Raul Barreto and Julius Milla.
