Velasquez Cup up at Sariaya
LUCENA CITY, Philippines – The Kilusang 609 Gun Club is hosting a Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA)-sanctioned match, the first P/Senior Supt. Ericson Velasquez Invitational Shooting Competition, Aug. 28-29 at the SAFE Firing Range in Sariaya, Quezon.
Club president Gemi Formaran said Velasquez, the newly installed Quezon police provincial director, did not think twice when requested by the club to sponsor the competition as it would help shooting enthusiasts, civilians or law enforcers especially those in Quezon, hone their skills in practical shooting or gun sport.
He said Velasquez believes that policemen should also join shooting competitions as they promote marksmanship, gun safety handling and self-discipline.
Chief Insp. Allen Rae Co, city police chief of Tayabas and the event’s match director, said they had instructed police chiefs in the province to send at least two participating policemen.
“I’m not a regular shooter but every time there was a shooting competition, I used to send at least a team of shooters,” said Co, a boxer.
A level 1, PPSA-sanctioned match, the two-day competition is expected to draw 200 shooters from Calabarzon, Mimaropa and National Capital Region.
Jay Formaran of the National Range Officers Institute will be the range master while instructor Jing Pardilla is range warden.
