Lady Falcons trip Archers for 8th win

- Olmin Leyba -

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Adamson U stormed to its eighth straight win, claiming the scalp of La Salle, 60-45, yesterday in the UAAP Season 73 women’s basketball tourney at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Falcons drew big games from Anna Buendia (19 points) and last year’s MVP Analyn Almazan (18 markers and 19 rebounds) to cement their place at the top and move six wins away from a sweep and an automatic finals slot.

Kady Wilson shot 10 points that went with six boards for the third-running Lady Archers (5-3).

National U shellacked University of the East behind the 22-point, nine-rebound effort of Jovelyn Mejia, 83-63, to improve to 3-5. The Lady Warriors, who got 12 points from Eden Alla and 13 caroms from Carmina Laquindanum, went 0-8.

In the juniors division, leading MVP candidate Kevin Ferrer fired 16 markers and grabbed 20 rebounds to power Santo Tomas past NU, 74-55.

With the win, the Tiger Cubs hiked their card to 6-4, just a win off the No. 2 Bullpups’ 7-3.

The Cubs were joined at third place by FEU-FERN and De La Salle-Zobel, which outclassed their respective rivals.

The Baby Tams routed UE, 78-48, while the Junior Archers foiled the 26-point output of UPIS’ Paolo Ancheta in a 97-72 mangling. The Junior Warriors dropped to 1-9 while the Junior Maroons slipped to 0-10.
