MANILA, Philippines - The third leg of the Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Tournament returns to Lingayen, Pangasinan, and so is defending champion Jennifer Manzano, who is more than eager to retain the crown she won last year.
Manzano will rely on her familiarity with the playing conditions when she and her new partner Satchel Senupe plunge into action tomorrow at the beach front of the Purok Marcelo Resort.
The 5-11 Manzano and Senupe will seek a slot in the Battle of Champions at the end of the beach volleyball season, along with 11 other teams entered in the two-day event supported by Speedo, Mikasa, Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil in cooperation with the Sports Development Program of Pangasinan, Fern-Slim and Petron.
Organizer Tisha Abundo said this will be the eighth year that they are holding the tournament, a series of quarterly eliminations where the winners and runners-up play in the Battle of Champions.
“We also hope to promote the scenic places and the schools which usually hold the tournaments,” said Abundo.
Manzano, a De La Salle University-Dasmariñas student who had April Almaden as her partner last year when they beat Ateneo’s Asia Urquico and Sharah So, said she is ready for another crack at the crown.
So will play without Urquico, who will team up with Khrysette Onishi this time around.
