MANILA, Philippines - Host Centro Escolar University and defending champion Lyceum routed their respective rivals while all but one of seven volleyball matches were decided in straight sets during the opening of the 41st Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) over the weekend.
CEU dominated San Beda College-Alabang from start to finish and ran away with a 72-44 rout at the jampacked Ninoy Aquino Stadium last Saturday.
Four-time defending champion Lyceum, meanwhile, overwhelmed St. Scholastica’s College, 99-39, at the Lyceum gym last Sunday.
Returning St. Paul College Pasig also prevailed in its two midgets assignments, blanking rookie team Poveda in the first quarter en route to a 37-21 victory while beating Miriam in volleyball, 25-11, 25-20.
St. Scholastica also scored twin victories in volleyball, thumping St. Jude Catholic School, 25-5, 25-6, in midgets, and beating Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-10, 25-15, 25-10, in Senior B.
Also winning their basketball matches were University of Asia and the Pacific over La Consolacion College Manila, 57-47; Philippine Women’s University over EAC, 69-43; College of St. Benilde over UA and P, 75-39; and Rizal Technological University against La Consolacion, 64-35.
Other volleyball winners were defending midgets champion San Beda against rookie team Poveda, 25-11, 25-20; RTU over UA and P, 25-12, 25-13, 25-13; San Beda against Miriam, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23; and Philippine Women’s Univeristy versus La Consolacion, 25-22, 25-15, 25-18.
