Olympians edge Icons, share NAASCU lead
MANILA, Philippines - Former champion STI Colleges edged Informatics International Colleges, 60-58, to gain a share of the lead with University of Manila and Our Lady of Fatima in the 10th NAASCU men’s basketball tournament at the STI gym in Bonifacio Global City recently.
Henri Betayane, a 6-6 recruit from Cameroon, scattered 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Olympians, who also drew 13 and 11 points from Jerald Bautista and MacLean Sabellina, respectively.
The 6-4 Sabellina hit a crucial shot against two defenders, shoving STI to a 59-58 lead with 34 seconds left in the game.
Hassed Gabo’s split sealed the Olympians’ third straight victory.
AMA Computer University, meanwhile, bounced back from back-to-back setbacks by beating St. Clare College-Caloocan, 85-76.
