Bayron two shots off in Selangor tilt
MANILA, Philippines - Jay Bayron shot an eagle-spiked three under par 68 to trail Malaysian leader Airil Rizman by two strokes halfway through the storm-hit Selangor Masters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday.
Bayron, who struggled with a one-over 72 at the par-71 Seri Selangor Golf Club Wednesday, sizzled at the backside with three birdies and an eagle-3 on No. 13, jumping from No. 27 to a share of fourth with three other Filipino bets at 140.
Ferdie Aunzo, meanwhile, shot the first albatross on the Asian Tour in three years when he holed out with a 2 on No. 5 from a 7-iron shot from 172 yards. But the smooth-swinging Filipino could only managed a 72 and stood below the cut off line with a 147.
Other 140 scorers were Juvic Pagunsan, Angelo Que and Mars Pucay.
three-under 68 for joint fourth with compatriot Mars Pucay and Angelo Que and Bayron, just two shots off Rizman, who hobbled with a 72 and an opening 66 for a 138.
Pucay, also searching for a breakthrough win on the tour, also carded a 68 while Que turned in a second straight 70.
Artemio Murakami likewise made it to the final two rounds of the $300,000 tournament with a 144 after a 68.
American Corrie Harris shot a 67 for a 139, one shot behind Rizman.
