FEU, Ateneo, Lyceum eye quarterfinals
MANILA, Philippines - Three teams try to formalize their stint in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference today with Ateneo taking on winless St. Benilde at The Arena in San Juan.
Coming off a thrilling five-set win over Lyceum last Sunday, the Lady Eagles are heavily favored over the Blazers in the 4 p.m. match as they go for their fourth win in five games and a place in the next round with early quarterfinalists San Sebastian-Excelroof and Adamson.
St. Benilde, with a woeful 0-5 card, tries to keep its flickering hopes alive as it seeks its first victory in the season-ending conference sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
Far Eastern U, meanwhile, shoots for its fourth win against two losses as it collides with Perpetual Help in the 2 p.m. opener of another exciting triple-header.
With a 1-4 slate, the Lady Altas need to sweep their last two games to force a playoff for the last quarters slot.
Lyceum, on the other hand, seeks to bounce back from that Ateneo loss as it battles National U, the other team in contention for a quarterfinal berth in the tournament organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa and Excelroof.
Gametime is at 6 p.m. with the Lady Pirates, in fifth place with a 3-3 card, also out to join the Lady Stags and the Falcons in the next round.
But the Lady Bulldogs, with a 2-3 slate, are expected to go all out in a bid to boost its own bid and slam the door shut on the Lady Altas and the Blazers.
Meanwhile, the FEU-Perpetual Help match will be aired on NBN-4 Friday starting at 2 p.m. with the Ateneo-St. Benilde duel to be shown on Saturday. The Lyceum-NU game will be telecast on Sunday.
